Finished!

Image
Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog. In todays blog I will be telling you the things I did to finish editing my short film. Since I rough cut yesterday I decided to start from the beginning today and then work to the end.  The first thing I did was pick the filter for the first scene. The goal is for it to give Disney Channel sit-com. I wanted something warm but natural. I flipped through a few of the warm looking filters and picked the one I liked most. I then went to the adjust part of my app and fidgeted with the warmth and saturation sliders until the filter looked like how I pictured. The next thing I did was make the time I wanted to filter to stop. It is supposed to be when the director says cut. This is to signal the camera turning off. Timing this didn't take a while. I just ended up splitting and deleting again, flashback from yesterday. I've learned previously to add transitions early on so that it doesn't mess up the timing of the text and music. I ...

Editing Is A Lot

Image
Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays blog I am going to be telling you about my first day of editing. I decided to take it a little easy and just start by rough cutting. I thought that was going to be easy. In reality I think it took me about an hour and thirty minutes and I didn't take a break. There was a lot of angles and back and forth dialogue. I pulled back out my storyboard to see which lines go with what angle. I will say favoriting the good takes made this process a lot easier. Since I did that I didn't have to go through a bunch of the same videos over and over again because they were already selected. I don't think I ever hit the split and delete button so many times. I cut out all of the long pauses in the beginnings and ends of the clips to get a more accurate depiction of how long my short film was going to be. I originally thought the montage scene was going to be the hardest to cut up but it actually was the most fun. I picked out the ...

That's A Wrap

Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays blog I will be telling you about the process of filming the last scene in my final task. Today I filmed the last scene of my short film. This one was short because it doesn't have any lines. This is also where I got my cameo. Last year when I did my music video and my final task, my partner and I were in the back of at least one scene. I didn't know if I was going to be in one of the scenes this year but yesterday I decided I was going to close off the film with me being the one at the desk. My mom is a perfectionist so she told me to clean off her desk before I filmed anything there. It took a lot of work because she has so many papers and items but I was finally able to get it clean enough for her liking. Before I could film I had to email the video of the kids looking around to my moms computer. Once that was on the computer I changed into all black and then I asked my sister if she could help me film. She said no, ...

Mall Day!

Image
Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays blog I will be telling you about what I filmed today at the mall. I got all of my work done yesterday so today after school asked my friends to meet me at the mall for 3:30PM. This morning before school I packed the all black outfit for my sister. She didn't want to be in my film this year but I convinced her to be the person who records. Surprisingly everyone got to the mall on time so we got started right away. The first thing I did was explain what this scene was in case they forgot. I have everyone a few minutes to look over the script. After a few tries I recorded the beginning dialogue. The next part was to film the montage part of us hanging out. This was easy because I am normally the one who records and documents the things we do. Basically my friends are used to having a camera on them.  Out of everything I filmed so far in this process, this scene has been my favorite. I love hanging out with my friends and...

Bump In The Road

Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog. I do have some bad news to share. I had to cancel on filming today. Normally I would just skip writing a blog and come back when there is something to write about but I felt I had to share the full process. Sometimes the day isn't going to always go as one would hope but I have to learn to adapt. I have been so busy these past few days that I didn't realize how behind I was getting on my work. When I woke up I made my to-do list and there was so much I have to do for tomorrow and I have a chemistry test. I sent out a text to my friends letting them know that I couldn't film today. They were understanding and one of my friends said that he had a bunch of work to do too so this was good. We made a plan to meet up at the mall at 4:00pm tomorrow to do the scene. I spent the rest of the day doing all my work. I didn't finish but I got more done than if I went to the mall and filmed. I did do something today related to my fina...

Making Progress

Image
Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog. In todays blog I will be telling you what I filmed today for my short film. Today was quick and easy because it was the bedroom scene. Since it's Saturday everyone has a busy schedule so I chose to film the scene were I only need one person. Lucky for me she goes to the same program that I do in the morning because we are going to be in musical together. After rehearsal we self checked out and walked to my moms car. Since we were hungry we got Burger King on the way home but that has nothing to do with the short film. I really wanted head phones that can be put on top of her head instead of airpods so she brought hers from home. For this scene I also grabbed some of my school work to put on the bed for the homework.  Filming this went by quickly because there weren't any distractions. I wanted it to look like she was actually writing something so I had her write about things she eats as a picky eater. There wasn't much on th...

Park Day!

Image
Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays video I am going to be telling you about todays filming process. Today was similar to yesterday because I told everyone to get to the park for 3:30pm. I was a little late because I had to pick up the food for the scene. When I got there I had everyone take a few bites of their chosen meal so it looks like they were eating before the camera started. We started filming right after that. Since they are sitting at a table it was easy to have the phone recording the audio on top of the table without it looking out of place. I was very productive because there wasn't a lot of laughing. I was able to get all of my angles in a few takes. It was easy to get done because my friends already have the friendly dynamic. It's not like I was starting with new actors who have to build bonds. Once we finished filming we hung out at the park for a little longer. We don't see each other often so it was great to catch up. We probably s...

First Day Of Filming!

Image
Hello welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays blog I am going to tell you about my first day filming. Since today was a school day and we all go to different schools I told my actors to arrive at my moms job for 3:30pm. That gives them enough time to get food and make the commute. Also two of my friends go to a school that ends at 3:00 compared to the rest of us who end at 2:40. While I was waiting for everyone to get there I cleaned up the desk that we are filming at. My moms boss has a cluttered desk which makes sense for a principal but I wanted to take a few things off so it's not too much. By the time everyone got there it was 3:45 so for the most part people were on time. This is good because I had to get home to write this and do some more homework. Filming didn't take too long but we laughed a lot. A big convention in Disney Channel TV shows is the big acting and putting a sort of emphasis on everything. That was my vision for the first scene and I think my fr...

Location Scouting

Image
Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays blog I will be taking you with me on the process of scouting my locations for my short film. The bedroom scene was easy. There are three bedrooms in my house so I could pick between those. This time I chose my sisters room because it is more preppy and pink than mines. When I picture my actor in the room, I see her in my sisters room more than mines. For the "principals office" I looked at using my moms bosses office. It kind of gives principal, but I mostly like how he has a lot of stuff on his desk and the door. The door is perfect for when William sticks his head through it. For "the picnic table outside of the set" I decided on the easiest place I can use a table: the park. The closest park to my house is called Mills Pond Park. It has a few tables and a lot of grassy area.  For my TBD scene I decided on the mall. There are many reasons like the variety of things to do for the montage and film locations...
