Short Film Research: A Play; Thriller

Image
Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays blog I will be telling you some Thriller conventions I noticed from this short film. There was various different camera, angles, movements, and shots. At some point they even did a dutch. There were a bunch of sound elements. Both diegetic and non-diegetic sound. The background music that builds up till the big moment was in it as well. It was set in the house of an auditorium so there was very minimal mis-en-scene I really liked the sound elements. It carried the film because there wasn't much dialogue and everything took place at one location. I liked everything however it look a minute to understand the ending.

Short Film Research: Election Day; Thriller

Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays blog I will be telling you some Thriller conventions I noticed from this short film. A long pan/establishing shot as we get to see the school. A lot of medium long shots and close ups on objects. This was a thriller set at a high school so at some points they played the typical high school tv show background music. I really liked the use of hallway chatter in the background of the two characters dialogue. All of the costumes, lighting, acting and so forth were very knish for high school students. The element of the thriller genre that I think was executed well was the plot twist/reveal in the end. I also like how it was a small flash back moment which helped understand it better. There wasn't anything I didn't like. If I had to pick something I would say the camera quality but it is understandable because of how long ago this was made.

Short Film Research: Foam Drive Renegade; Thriller

Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays blog I will be telling you some Thriller conventions I noticed from this short film. There was a bunch of close up in this one. The largest the frame went was a medium long shot. There was a good amount of sound used that I think went well. At some point there was a ringing sound; the kind you hear in your ear. There was elevator back ground music when at the gas station. There was the music from the radio playing in the car and at some point the background noise was muffled and only the breathing of one of the characters was heard. There were a lot of jump cuts between the different characters and the editing during the action parts were very good as well. I really liked the chaotic energy from this. Even though there isn't a lot of chaos in most thriller movies, it went well here. I didn't really see anything I didn't like.

Short Film Research: Unleaded; Thriller

Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays blog I will be telling you some Thriller conventions I noticed from this short film. There was a lot of close ups, there was a walking scene where the camera moved with them as well as pans There was a faint thriller sound in the back and the bell from the door to the gas station. It started with a black screen and for it to be a gas station it was very dark. It was also dark outside. The characters were wearing sweats and jackets I really liked the fact that main character was talking on the phone but the robber thought he was talking to him. I found that funny. I didn't really like the story line for the main character in terms of his background. It was really good for seven minutes and the plot twist at the end was unexpected.

Research: How to make a short film?

Image
Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays video I will be telling you what I learned from my research on how to write a short film. My takeaway from the video I watched was that even though it is a short film, there is still a lot of moving parts to make it look good. It’s more than just getting people together and filming. There is casting and equipment involved as well. There was a lot of good information but if I had to pick to I would choose that you have to be committed to the idea and always do something that you can accomplish. This will help me in my short film process because my script will be something I know I can complete. This is also a lesson I learned last year with my final task because when I had to re-film only three people showed up and there was supposed to be about fifteen. Overall I think the video I watched was very helpful and I think I will re-watch it at different points in this short film process.

Comparing Le Jetee, The Short, and 12 Monkeys, The Full-Length Movie

Part 1     My takeaway from the video starts from the tittle. I didn't know either of the two titles nor that the 12 Monkeys was a remake of it. I also learned that the original "Le Jetee" was just black and while photos and music but when watching it that commentary made it come to life. However on top of the man speaking from the video I felt like I couldn't take in the whole thing. This will help with my short film because I was originally just going to have dialogue and a little bit of music here and there but after watching this I realized the importance of music and the impact it makes on what you're watching. Part 2     My takeaway from the article was that it was a deeper dive then the video from the pervious link. I was able to better understand what I learned from the video with the words now in front of me. Information I gathered while reading it was that narration can help tell the story in an imaginative manner. I think this article can help me in ...

Comparing 9, The Short, and 9, The Full-Length Movie

Image
Hello and welcome to or welcome back to my blog! In todays blog I am going to be comparing the short film and the full length versions of 9. Short Film:     The short film was really cool. At first when I noticed there weren't any words I was a little skeptical of how much I was going to like it but after catching on to what was going on I was hooked. The plot made me a little sad when I realized that 9 was trying to get back at the monster that killed its friend and in the end freed all of the souls. The character development was my favorite. 9 went from someone who was oblivious and ran and hide to someone who was by themselves and facing their fears to free everyone. An effect that made me a little confused was the fade between 9 running and then sitting on top of the ledge. During my first watch I thought it was a different thing but when I re-watched that part it was clarified. This short film met all the criteria of a thriller. I felt the suspense when the monster ...
